Education Settings

(Preschools, Primary and Secondary Schools, Autism Classes, Third Level Institutions)
Connect offers a range of services to mainstream primary, secondary schools, special schools and further education colleges. Please contact us to discuss the most appropriate level of service for you and your education setting.

Who do we see?

We see any child or young person who either presents with a confirmed or potential speech, language or communication need or difference. We provide specialist support to children and young people and carry out assessments with children and young people who have complex communication needs.

In some settings, following agreement and discussion with the school, Connect works with a number of children at one setting for a half day or a whole day. The school hosts the service and it is paid for by parents/carers.

How frequently is the SLT at the setting?

SLT services can be delivered in whole day or half day packages at a frequency that meets the needs of the school/college.

How does the SLT work in education settings?*

  • Works with children and young people to support specific speech/communication needs. This includes providing speech and language therapy to children who access autism classes and special schools
  • Provides speech and language services within the classroom or allocated space
  • Combines communication goals with academic and/or social goals
  • Integrates speech and language activities with the curriculum
  • Focuses on the transition to adulthood when appropriate

*this is subject to permission being granted by the school
